Import/Export your map locations between WordPress websites


In this guide, you’ll learn how to transfer your map locations from one WordPress website to another using the built-in import and export tool. This comprehensive guide covers the step-by-step process, including how to install the WordPress Import plugin if needed.

1. Exporting the Map Locations:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin panel on the website where the map locations exists.
  2. Navigate to “Tools => Export” in the WordPress admin menu.
  3. In the Export screen, select the content type you use to save your map locations, for example, if you’re using posts for locations, select “Posts”.
  4. Click on the “Download Export File” button to download the XML file containing your maps.

2. Importing the Maps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress admin panel on the new website where you want to import the map locations.
  2. If the “Import” plugin isn’t installed, you can follow steps (a, b & c) to install it. Otherwise, proceed to step 3 below:
    1. Navigate to “Tools => Import” in the WordPress admin menu.

    3. Once installed, click on the “Run Importer” link to start importing your content.
  3. After installing the Importer plugin (if needed), click on the “Run Importer” link or navigate to “Tools => Import”.

  5. Click on the “Upload file and import” button.
  6. In the next screen, you’ll have the option to assign imported content to an existing user or create a new user. Choose the appropriate option.

3. Verifying the Import:

  1. Once the import process is complete, you’ll see a success message.
  2. Navigate to the map locations post type (e.g. “Posts”) section in the WordPress admin menu to view the imported map locations and verify that they have been successfully imported.
  3. You can also check individual map locations to ensure that all content and settings have been transferred correctly.

4. Regenrating your markers:

  1. Navigate to “Progress Map”, click on the menu “Plugin settings”and make sure to select your (map locations) post type in the list of post types under the “Post types” field.
  2. Save your settings by clicking on the button “Save changes”.
